Dear Great British Spring Clean participant,

IMPORTANT UPDATE: York’s GB Spring Clean
City of York Council is asking York’s litter heroes to reschedule their GB Spring Clean events (planned for this weekend) in view of the cold weather.
The official guidance from Keep Britain Tidy – organisers of the national GB Spring Clean event – is to keep an eye on the weather and if there is any doubt about safety not to go ahead with events.
The annual spring clean event aims to inspire people to roll their sleeves up and get involved in litter picks and ‘tidy-ups’, and was due to focus events around this weekend.
As a result of the wintry conditions, the council has taken the decision to postpone York’s spring clean to ensure residents and partners stay safe in the wintery weather.
Cllr Andrew Waller, Acting Leader of City of York Council and Executive Member for the Environment, said: “I’d like to thank everyone who has planned an event or who was hoping to take part in an activity this weekend. The wintry weather may have postponed our plans, but it won’t cancel them altogether. I’d encourage people to re-schedule their events over the next few weeks – hopefully when it will be a bit warmer – and we can all still be litter heroes!”
